SPOT is a 1670 sq. ft. microschool in Bangalore designed to offer teenagers a third place – beyond home and school – where they can feel seen, heard, and empowered
through personalised, inclusive, and future-ready learning.
As the interior space design consultant, we led the conceptual planning and design of SPOT’s environment to reflect their ethos of empathy, inclusivity, curiosity and self-expression. Deekshitha, a very talented artist, was on-board as a collaborator as well. We created an environment that supports self-awareness, autonomy, and emotional well-being by closely collaborating with the founders and the young students themselves.
The design process began with a two-day co-creation workshop (DesignVille workshop) where teens shared their dreams, discomforts, and what they wished a learning space could feel like. Including them in this design process helped to establish a sense of ownership and anchored the project in their needs.
The final space included flexibly adapt to different activities:
-Relaxation room with acoustic solutions, soft lighting and options for sensory stimulation, calm and regulation through furniture and immersive art installations
-Collaborative co-working zones with flexible options like tiered seating, movable furniture and warm, vibrant tones to bring energy and focus.
-A hands-on Makerspace designed for tinkering, building and open-ended exploration
-Social and snack nooks like swing-seating and breakout corners to support informal interactions during the day
-Smart solutions to site challenges like low lighting, poor insulation, and tight corners using mirrors, white ceilings, and multi-functional layouts
